A Series — Souan
連作｜草菴Souan, a ryokan at Yunokawa Onsen, is a group of buildings assembled from relocated old farmhouses. Across 9 projects from 2004 onward, Esumi Atelier shaped it building by building — from Restaurant Suzuna (a Taisho-era kominka relocated from Gifu) to the detached rooms, the thatched gate and Shiunkaku. One long story.
An Atelier in a Restored Kominka
古民家を再生したアトリエOur atelier is a restored 300-year-old farmhouse. From here we work mainly in timber — new buildings, kominka restoration, and the conservation of thatched farmhouses. The main house beside the atelier takes guests as a homestay.
